A blind corner as cars are speeding up for the motorway. There is space to stop. Maybe try along London Road but there’s not many good spots to stop around the roundabout

I find lifts in Oxfordshire take a bit longer than average. Good spot for cars to stop in the bus bay. Despite the rain made it halfway to London!!

I've stopped here twice while hitchhiking south from Scotland to London. First time got a ride to Birmingham, and the second time to London. Both pretty quickly. Plus the services are comfortable, with free toilets, charging sockets etc. I would definitely stop here again when looking for a longer-distance ride.

Maidstoners aren't generally the hitching type... I tend to get a lot of confused and/or disgruntled stares when hitching to London from around here. But hey, this is the roundabout which leads onto the main motorway which goes to London.

Second car I asked took me to the outskirts of London.

Second time I use this spot. Last time I find a ride in the gas station mear by(good for asking paper for yhe sign). This time I waited a lot, most people go to barca. 2 guys from london and sud africa pick me up, spanish people didn't stop, it was summer, there was some french cars.

Horrible spot if you want to head north. Almost all people are packed or heading south. We waited for over 4 hrs before somebody finally got us to north bristol. I suggest catching rides heading to london to get to a more northern spot off the M5.

We were ambitious trying to get to Wells. Got a ride after 30 min. Lots of people heading to bristol, even london

Trying to get to London with a sign. Waited on the side of the exit that leads onto the M5 for 30 minutes. Then moved to the entrance of the services and waited for 20 minutes before a nice lady with her dog picked me up and took me as far as she could.

Direction east to London. Depends on time propably, but for us car went slow luckilly due to congestion, got picked up in about 10m by a guy, but lots of tourist cars that were already full. Got all the way to Windsor.

June 2025 - M40 west. After giving up on a spot in London I went here. About 30 mins walk from the train station, you have to smash down some brambles and it is a slipway so technically not legal, but it took no time at all and I actually got all the way to my destination in the Cotswolds

Had been waiting outside petrol station for a couple hours before we realised that 90% of the traffic was entering not leaving the services. Switched spots and got offered a few lifts until eventually we got one into london within half an hour

Walked here from Leuven, asked around, two of them were going to Brussels and the third one happened to be a couple living near London, so I got a ride from here through Eurotunnel all the way to north of London. And they ended up being worried that I will get stuck hitchhiking out of the London bubble, so they bought be a crazy expensive train ticket to Manchester, so I got to my friend’s place by the evening! ☺️

Me and a friend waited only 15mins at around 7:30am and got a lift going to London. We stood just before the petrol station. It worked well as people are slowing down because of the lights and can pull in to the petrol station easily if they want to pick you up. Staff also let us use the toilet there.

Stood at the entrance to the petrol station and got a lift heading into London. Also got offered a lift to Milton Keynes inside the services when seen walking around with sign. Not loads of traffic but decent spot

Two people stopped in less than 10 minutes, the first guy wasn't going in to London. No hassle with police, but maybe that's because it was so quick!

Quickly found a ride into southwest London from here

After 15 min I found a ride to a gas station close to London.

Great gateway-spot. I waited 15 min and a woman took me to the gas station up the hill in her Jaguar. From there I quickly found a ride to London (could've gone to Luton if I wanted)

Medium petrol station, decent spot to get out of London. I got a lorry to Swindon early morning.
